I would do the drive at least one way and you should fly to MIA unless you flew to FLL and wanted to spend a day there. To Key West, stop off in Islamorada (perhaps a quick boat tour), go to Square Grouper on one of the directions (I think MM25), and have fun enjoying your spouse. Part of the fun is the journey. Oh, consider a convertible!
