I have some SYD-HKG-SYD flights coming up on a 747 on what I think is still called the refurbed version (3 class, with the rows 43/44 mini-cabin in Y)
As I don't really fly in Y with Qantas all that often i've read through the bulk of this thread and got a pretty good understanding of where some of the better and worst seats in Y are (sadly i'm not in an upgradeable fare bucket!).
Unfortunately as i'm not yet a Platinum (will be in a couple of months) the mini-cabin is not available for selection, so while i'll try and grab those at the 80 hour mark, i'd appreciate some advice on seats I should select now.
I'm travelling with my partner so the rear "couple" seats do sort of appeal, particularly for the overnight HKG-SYD leg where we're transferring to another international flight several hours later (so we're in no rush to clear customs) and I don't want people stepping over me when i'm trying to sleep. 70A and 70B seem like a decent option, with me in 70A as i'm pretty tall (over 6 foot).
For the day flight over to HKG I thought a bulkhead, as I hate people reclining into me. But nor am I a fan of sitting near the bathrooms (particularly after a recent bad experience on a LAN 787 in J). For that reason i've avoided 46D-G. 60D-G is unavailable for selection (either already selected or blocked due to bassinet row), so I was thinking 60J & 60K (the exit row). Is row 60 better/worse than row 46?
(46B/C, 46H/J, 58B/C are all $90 extra)
Ideally it'd be great if we had the actual exit in front of us (as we had recently in Emirates Y - we had acres of room) but the 747 seat map on Seatguru suggests that the galley might be in front of these seats, with the exit in front of the galley.
Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!
