Thank you. So basically 30thousand Aeroplan miles is not exactly $300 in credit? I guess I can also not redeem it with any travel agent and must go through this internal Aeroplan booking system? So if its 100K to fly to India is it for return or one way? Also if I have 30K points and it cost 100K I can pay the difference with my own money right?

You are confusing Amex Membership Rewards points with Aeroplan points. In the first case, you could use your Amex Membership Rewards points (nothing to do with Aeroplan or Air Canada) to reduce the price of your ticket on any airline.
With the TD, you are stuck with Aeroplan points which must be redeemed via Aeroplan using their mileage chart
