Problem is that with outstations, it's entirely likely that the aircraft isn't checked until the overnight cleaning (or what passes for it). That tablet could be sitting with the station manager 5 rotations later.

I keep coming back to solution #2, tape a business card to the back of valuables you use inflight. We're all human and forget things, but this at least assures that if the thing isn't stolen, that you may see it back.
