I cancelled an awards stay in Maui at 3pm at check-in on day of arrival because the wife didn't like the property. Got all of the points back and Used them two hours later at the other Maui property. However, I had to persuade the first property to let me cancel and booked the other on the phone with the Gold Desk. It was my lucky day! (This was a 6 night stay)
