I often wonder about the little paper salt and pepper sachets that seem to be included in all meals. I'd guess that over 95% of them don't even get opened and go completely to waste.
I don't normally use the salt and pepper sachets but I often bring the paper finger wipes back with me. They are very handy for emergency stain removal, wiping my hands when I cannot find a sink nearby to wash my hands etc.
Its tiny little size makes it suitable for handbags (and men's pockets I assume) too, unlike those full packets of wipes.

And does anyone know if it goes to waste, or goes to a good cause. One would hope there was a mechanism at major airports to channel any unused-yet-edible food to a worthy cause. (Or do 'elf-and-safety regulations prevent this?)
I think Mother Teresa arranged for that in India and somewhere else on some occasions, but I think it could be quite difficult in the UK and other developed countries nowadays due to food safety issues and quarantine in some cases.
I hope something is done with some of the elements that do not go off though, rather than being thrown out.
