To actually be helpful, I can claim I've done this. BUT - the issue is whether your bag will literally fit through the mouth of the x ray scanner.

If it does not, you're SOL.

I did this twice. I once missed the 40 minute cut off for bag check; I have precheck and simply walked my bag through, and checked the bag with the gate agent.

My bag wasn't insanely large though.

I think the xray scanner machines are probably like, I dunno, 2 feet wide? Maybe 25 inches? I dunno.

If it gets stuck, your life will be awful.
