Alaska has already been doing this for a while with their intra state awards (http://www.alaskaair.com/content/mil...tra-state.aspx). As long as you stay in the same state coach awards start at 7,500 miles one way. In fact I just used one of these awards last weekend to fly from YKM to GEG.
