Delta also doesn't publish award charts. And they give less miles for lower-fare tickets.

AS doesn't need to mimic everything Delta does.

And I'm not sure that the appropriate term is zone based awards. There are some flights that Delta is charging 10k miles for (or higher) that are shorter than some of the 5k miles awards.
