This depends upon what you value in comfort.

Good points about the Budd built Metroliners:

- Seats had legrests (since removed).

- Seat pitch was greater.

- Seat design had contoured headrests (helps
keep head in place while sleeping).

- Seatback was higher, providing increased
sense of privacy (featured in a Pepperidge
Farm cookie commercial!).

- Cafe had real tables suitable for sitting
(instead of the current Cafe which is an
amazing waste of space for the seating it
provides).

- Real, enclosed phone booths were provided
(useful even if you don't use the
payphone, greater privacy for cell phone
calls).

Good points about the Acela Express trainset:

- Large windows.

- Overhead, individual seat lighting is much
brighter.

- Restrooms are larger.

- Easier to walk between cars as the end
doors are not as cumbersome as on the
Metroliners.

- Larger seatback tray table, and more
stable.

- Faster acceleration and braking (helps
reduce journey times).

- Tilt feature (although not used to full
extent) to provide faster speeds through
curves.

Which is more comfortable? Which of the above are more important to you?
