Delta Refund Status - Slow Refunds Blamed on Amtrak Tragedy
I've been trying to get a refund for taxes/fees paid for an award ticket. Delta assessed the 150/pp redeposit fee (ouch) in early May and promptly redeposited my miles (used for business on AF originally).
10 days later - no refund to my CC of around 1200 in taxes/fees. I called to check on the status, waited 45 minutes, was transferred again, and the agent told me she would resubmit it but that refunds were delayed and being slowly processed due to - the Amtrak tragedy!
I asked her how one was related to the other (my refund should have been given to the refund group several days before the terrible incident) and she said something about how people were cancelling flight reservations due to the amtrak crash and how a lot of people were requesting refunds. Not to mention I find it in extremely poor taste that they are blaming their processing times on a terrible situation.
Funny enough, 10 minutes after I got off the phone call I got a confirmation of the refund request and then an email from a real person saying they were processing it today with a 7 day wait time.
Is this normal refund wait time with DL? We cancelled VS upper class seats as part of the same trip and it showed up on our amex 2 days later as a refund. They certainly didn't wait to charge us for the redeposit fees, that's for sure.
