With the new rules I cannot work out the following

1 which airline would be the most beneficial to use BA from Vancouver or AA from Seattle
2. I will buy a World Traveler Plus ticket and upgrade to business class if possible. This is for next May so would book one year ahead.
3. the mileage and number of points needed to upgrade.
4. I love to fly BA but understand the taxes are less with AA

hugely appreciated!
If you are redeeming BA Avios, you will pay hefty surcharges for TATL flights, regardless of whether you are on AA or BA metal. If you redeem AA miles, there will be no surcharges on AA metal.

AA does not offer an Economy Plus class of service, and AA has no TATL nonstop service out of SEA.

If you cannot find space on BA's YVR-LHR or SEA-LHR nonstops, you might want to look at YVR-JFK on CX's red-eye, connecting to a BA morning flight JFK-LHR.
