Go to a EUR paying ATM in the UK and it's different (or at least the ones I use are). You say to the ATM "I want EUR500." It tells you it will sell you the Euros at a rate of 1.25 so you hit confirm. The ATM then says to your bank, "hey, Oil-man just withdrew £400. Give us the money."
Ok - thanks.
I was looking for an ATM that wouldn't do the conversion, but looks like from your advice they don't exist in the UK.
A few years back I got a pre-credited card with 200 Euros from BA for being bumped off a flight. I remember being able to use it at a free ATM somewhere in T5 Heathrow (I seem to remember going to top floor even above departures???), and it gave me 200 Euros straight from the UK based ATM, no fees or any other issues.
