Be sure to search one-way at a time, one segment at a time - so find a way to HK first, then if you're going onward from there, search that segment separately.
If Cathay is available, it will show up in the results after the BA flights (if any are available).
Thanks. I tried this today, found J availability on the flights I wanted, but when I called Alaska they said the seats weren't available.
