As a U.S. taxpayer I have no desire in subsidizing the U.S. airlines. But if the taxpayers in the UAE are ok with subsidizing air travel then that's just fine with me and will welcome the competition. It's not our dime being wasted so why should any of us in the U.S. care? I would be more sympathetic if the US3 actually made an attempt at good customer service. A smile and thank you go a long way.
Aren't a lot of European airlines run by their governments? I remember AR in Argentina is owned by the government and their inflight magazine is very pro-government.
I don't think it's a big deal unless the ME3 start a bunch of 5th freedom flights from Europe and Asia. Then, the US3 might have a case.
