With an economy on screech, business travel budgets are up and people have more discretionary income for leisure. That translates into more demand for space and thus larger aircraft (presuming frequency remains roughly constant).
The US legacy carriers have built in the flexibility to adapt through their express contracts. If the economy contracts, those same flights will shift back to whatever they were or worse soon enough. So, keep flying !
Good economy? Are you serious? Mainlines are returning places like my home in DSM but I think it has more to do with phasing out some of the regional carriers. Hopefully UA management is learning that using ERJ 145's and CRJ200's are equating to dissatisfied customers.
