BA have obviously put a lot of research into the euro elite thresholds and with due respect 800TP was too easy, 1000 would be a fair level. If i just look at my travel, i have been BA Gold the last 7yrs but will lose this year. Im always hitting around 1000TPs, but i would argue company policies and indeed competition has changed greatly from even pre 2012 when they were thinking of implementing this change. Im based in CPH and would often have personally spent the extra 60 gbp or so if not normally more to fly BA over Norwegian and then took up some extra upgrade fares to LHR if there which of course is extra revenue to BA. Now, theres no way i would spend 60 GBP to fly BA over Norwegian short haul, simply because Norwegian is a great airline, offering new planes, decent leg room and importantly Wifi.. Why spend the extra money to fly BA to get a fatty unhealthy sandwich and a drink. Thers honestly no reason to fly short haul BA unless competition is lacking.
Even long haul theres a choice, and like many here im sure id route my travels via LHR with BA rather than flying direct to tbe states or to Thailand with Thai etc.. Now again, competition in the last few years on long haul is gaining further momentum, Norwegian is opening more long haul routes from UK and Scandinavia, while Air France and Lufthansa are competitive when transiting.. So essentially for me, i would rather BA had reached a better compromise level, as for me at these levels ill keep my money in the pocket and not overspend to simply sit in a lounge drinking mediocre wine or feeling unlavished eating a waitrose microwave meal in J class...Personally, i think we will see a compromise level implemented next yr after BA sees its revenue fall off in Europe.
