Yes, I can see that AA might not have an accurate track of whether someone flew a US flight or not. I mean that US should have a very accurate idea of whether a passenger flew on a US flight or not.

I was assuming sbrower called US to ask about it. If he/she called AA, then I agree with you.

If one travels more widely in the world, it is difficult to avoid flying multiple carriers in one itinerary or with codeshares, and indeed it may be advantageous to do so.
