The US3, by loudly complaining about subsidies received by the ME3 (allegedly), have inadvertently opened a box of pandora that will hurt them as well. Not only has the discussion (mudsling contest) brought the ME3 in focus, but now the US3 are in the picture as well, with doubts about how they profited from bankruptcy, subsidies, and other incentives. Just remember: where two play with mud, two get dirty.
The sad thing is: had the US3 been focussed on customer satisfaction instead of gutting things like their frequent flyer programs with underhand tactics like hiding award charts, the flying public might have been squarely behind the US3. Now however, many if not all of the flying public just doesn't trust the US3 and will not support them. And many people are looking forward to more service from the ME3, not less.
Next time the US3 want pick a fight, better consider the options first. Because what goes around, comes around.
