Poise during serving is learned with experience measured in years.

The greeter though is just inexcusable, on autopilot. Whatever I said went out the other ear. When I say it's like being greeted at a generic NY bar, that's what I mean, that everyone's just out for revenue. They don't make a distinction if you are staying at the hotel. Luckily the tables in the Back Room are quite generously spaced, but then I wouldn't expect anything less.

The missing bathroom clock - I saw that coming last year, because the clock is pretty and would easily make a nice souvenir. I didn't try asking for another one to be placed.

Our turn down and room service experiences were very good. I had also asked for a nightcap of sherry and Irish whiskey to be delivered at a certain time, and it was well executed.

The PH has 210 rooms - not that large. I don't mind that the Living Room can get busy at times. The energy is nice, as I do go to NYC for that. I love their champagne theme. The smaller sitting room facing reception is the quieter space, which is fine with me. Although I think it's very weird that they have the guest computer and printer here, where you have to remain standing the whole time and the screen has no privacy. I view this as an architect fail.

I don't know the proportion of Park King to other rooms, but I understand there are not that many. Therefore, the Park Deluxe King are probably the rooms that are available anyway. Then they tout it as an upgrade on a technicality. (Was it planned that way?) Some random paying non status visitor who doesn't ask for an upgrade probably gets the Park King. So yes, I do agree that Diamonds and Plats are shortchanged re the room compared to other hotels. Just my observation. Will it change as the buzz settles down? Once the next new hotel opens? That is what many here think.

Checking the bill on the morning of - I was expecting the breakfast charges to be messed up from the feedback here. It did take a while. But also I was alone. I would have been annoyed had there been a line forming behind me.

I'll repeat something I said last year, which is, everybody seems really young, inexperienced, not exactly exuding confidence and efficiency. And as someone said, not that empowered.

Yes I agree there should be no difference between using cash or points. We certainly didn't skimp on room charges.

A large part of the enjoyment of the stay is indeed in the hardware. They will likely suffer if they haven't improved by the time the building ages and maintenance issues pop up. In the meantime, the rooms are new enough to satisfy.
I admire your excellent overview and thought process
You are a very well informed traveler and sensitive kind individual
And I apologize about their amateur service something that I trust will be corrected in time
Quite frankly I admire the restaurant management and few of their team members hand plucked from some other area Hyatts as well as Hyatt international

Though I am at Andaz next week I decided to break my more typical tradition and stay at theRitz Carlton here in New York for 4 nights
which is still less then half of what the Park Hyatt New York charges and that rate includes all day and night club access
I rarely have stayed with the brand but it blows The Park Hyatt out of the water in every way
My first stay included bottles of my favorite brand of sparking water (much like Park Hyatt Sydney)
a beautiful fruit platter a hand signed card signed by every team member in the hotel and a room with a view to die for of the harbor and the statue of liberty^
The front office manager called on his day off to make sure my stay was going well(blown away) Having a fantastic stay for what most Hyatts charge just around 500 a night making it a steal with the outstanding offerings in the club:-::-::-::-::-:

Contrast that to the Park Hyatt New York who couldn't pick up the phone while a guest is in house with issues without the prompting of Hyatt Consumer Affairs
I'm in good company as the hotel couldn't be bothered to respond to them until weeks make that months later!
I see the Park Hyatt NY recognition wise as a blatant rip off and an insult to the entire Hyatt organization only from an elite perspective of a 5 star brand

I'd never be at the Ritz had it never been for the awful performance of the Park Hyatt New York and they are the reason I am now trying and enjoying other brands outside of Hyatt
It will take either a new GM or business culture change for this Lifetime Diamond
to ever step into the hotel again other than for a meal
If this was a Hyatt Place I could easily brush it off and yawn
Unfortunately it's the number 1 flagship Hyatt property in the world damaging an award winning elite level recognition program and a legion of its devoted passionate followers one stay at a time depending on their personal individual perception and travel experience to not be fooled by smoke and mirrors
The hotel can still turn it around but I currently have little faith of the current regime
