On one of the YVR-HKG flights I was on, there were severely overbooked in J and were asking J pax to voluntarily downgrade to Y and they would refund the "difference".

Since no extra incentive was included, I passively declined.

However, in a situation like that, is the difference calculated from full fare J and full fare Y?
