BA caused me to inadvertently trigger an Amex companion voucher

I booked four seats a few weeks ago to the US using 2 x Amex 241 vouchers. This went through as two seperate bookings and I used two different Amex cards to pay, mainly as if I had used one I would have triggered another 241 voucher which I didn't want to do.

Several weeks went by before BA ticketed the flights and charged for them, but they have charged both tickets to only one card (as two transactions).

This isn't what we arranged over the phone and the result is that I have triggered a 241 voucher on my Amex account. This is really annoying as I wasn't due to trigger until November. This now means I cannot use it for a summer 2017 trip which was the plan.

Can anything be done in this situation?

Would refunding the offending charge result in the companion voucher being withdrawn? I'm concerned about refunds as given track record I wouldn't be surprised if the booking ended up cancelled.

Given that BA clearly made a mistake, is it within their power to revise the end date of the companion voucher to September 2017 so I can use it as planned?

Any help appreciated!
