how to approach proactive weather rerouting?

We're scheduled to fly XXX-DFW-JFK-XXX on Saturday, with a 40 minute connection in DFW (thanks to a schedule change with rebanking) and 2h29m connection at JFK.

The forecast for Saturday in DFW is poor, and JFK does not look great. This has us considering trying to book a different routing, especially after how last weekend went at DFW. Normally, I know we have to wait until the flight is affected or AA posts a travel advisory, and that thunderstorms are more unpredictable and cause shorter delays than snowstorms (discussed here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...derstorms.html)

Would you ask AA to consider it in light of the schedule change? We had not explicitly accepted it, but had also not changed it as there were no better options when we were first notified. The first phone agent we spoke with said no, that counts as accepting the change, but I don't know if this is somewhere they will hold firm or if it is a HUCA situation.

One other wrinkle is that we have applied SWUs to the reservation. There are no other flights within 24 hours with open C, and the only other flights with sufficient J space are BA codeshares. We'd like to keep the upgrades if possible, but not at the expense of multiple days of delays. My understanding, though, is that the schedule irregularity policy ticketed cabin does not apply to schedule changes, so if we wanted to be sure AA would try to accommodate us in J, we'd have to wait until our flights are affected.

Anything I'm missing or other things we should try? Advice on how you'd handle a similar situation? Thanks.
