I'm looking for advice on how to best stay connected while still have a phone with voice, text and data. Ideally, I'd like to continue to use an iPhone 6. I am seeking some advice on a few possible solutions to reduce costs. I'd been interested in actual experience with these possiblities, or another approach:

1. Buying an unlocked iphone and switching sims in each country.
2. Buying a new plan with a European carrier and using that instead of my American phone.

Thanks!
The problem with country-specific prepaid SIMs is that the validity/funds may expire before you get back to the country. If you are willing to deal with the hassle of buying them again or reloading them periodically to deal with expiration issues or avoid expiration issues, then it can work -- at least it works for some pretty well in conjunction with some US VOIP/SIP services or something like that.

I've yet to find a European plan service that could save me money for my distributed time amongst the U.S., Europe and India -- relative to what I get out of the method mentioned in my prior paragraph.
