anyways, they only allow 4-6 weeks of continuous roaming... after that, they may cut you off (ymmv on timing).
if you really need
guaranteed access overseas, get a prepaid sim card when you land, or a roaming provider like Lycamobile (check their rates... might be cheap in some countries, might not be)
(this is lycamobile's UK site... can't find the equivalent page on lycamobile's USA site... so maybe you'll have to get a lycamobile sim in the UK to get the benefits)

I've used lycamobile and lebara when I've been in the UK. Just not sure how they cover things elsewhere.
Right now, 3's iphone with a "Feel at Home" plan might do the trick- at least for Europe, the UK, Australia and Hong Kong. 50GBP/month and no roaming charges. I am still not completely sure about that plan because I am not completely certain if calls to the U.S. are an extra charge.
