I tried for an upgrade LHR-JFK last November. I was booked in Premium Economy DL W, showed as VS N, I think). The cash price for me would have been about 1100 UK pounds (which is about what the whole ticket cost in PE DCA-ORD-JFK-LHR-JFK-DCA).
The agents at LHR said no upgrades for DL miles yet, but that they thought it was coming. I guess still not in place.
