Ok, I should have been more clear.
Before you got status matched, if you credited to UA (correct me if i'm wrong please), you get your 100% bonus miles b/c you're 1K. If you credited to AE, you would have gotten 0. However, your goal based on my understanding is to shift from 100% bonus to 50% bonus, when you are technically entitled to only 0% if it weren't for a status match. So you're double dipping in the sense that you want to go from 100 - 50, not 100-0, which is what I did. (for my flights prior to status matching)
To me that seems like an ideal goal, yes, but it seems like a bit too much (for me). AC also doesn't have a public "challenge" program and unlike the days of say USAir, you couldn't buy *G and elite status.
AC has always stingy with status matches. I guess i'm just the sorta guy who is just thankful for stuff when it doesn't happen often. But hey, live and learn. To each their own
Yeah that's true. And there are still programs that sell status: AV sells *G outright. SK was doing it with their Houston to Stavanger flights.
Everybody and their dog can get status matched to TK for *G for 2 years. A3 has been easy to get *G for ages.
AC hasn't had the need to have a public challenge program because they have their grip on Canadian corporate contracts and the government. (As well as the prices.)
The US market is far more competitive which is why UA/DL/AA/AS all rightfully fight for more business and have these status match programs to fight for each others' elite fliers.
