Fully agree with this.
Booking a Gold room at Lake Louise may be a good idea since you can avoid the general madness at the hotel and the rooms are substantially nicer and larger than the regular rooms.
I thought the lounge was quite nice, but possibly not the most impressive Gold lounge I've seen.
I very much enjoyed the Gold lounges at the Pacific Rim and Vancouver Waterfront during the summer months since both have an awesome outside patio. And service was excellent at both lounges IMO.
But other than that I actually haven't stayed on the Gold floor at too many properties.
