Most of the A330's that CX has scheduled HKG-SIN seem to have the long haul J seats while all the 777's have the regional product. I am booked onto CX691 at 8.05am a few months from now (a A330) and have had a expertflyer aircraft-change alert active for months now in case CX decide to change it. Alert has not fired yet.
This is connecting from JFK and I agree with other posters that says you don't need to stay any longer in HKG connecting from your flight from EWR... 2 hours is plenty of time. Get onto the earliest connection that you can.

Edited to add that Most of the A330's have long haul, not all. I just looked for day I am traveling and the A330 that connects in BKK and one of the non-stop A330's are configured with regional seating. Rest are long haul product. So a aircraft change alert may not alert to change of J product.
