Yes it is worth the 500 USD. Also the miles as those aren't worth that much these days...

What you do though depends on what other need you have for 500 USD and how much you would be bothered about sitting in Y for that flight (and putting your 500 USD to better use!). But it is definitely worth it if you can spare the cash.
