I stayed here originally in September 2014 for three nights and I liked it so much, I returned with my spouse in April 2015 for six nights. As a Plat, I was upgraded to an ocean-front room in the Royal Beach Club both times and we found both the property and its location to be delightful.
The room was comfortable, not huge, but reasonably sized for two. Small balcony (large enough for two chairs and a table though) looking out over the Caribbean Sea. The bathroom was okay, beginning to show some wear and tear, but not a problem. The manager sent up a lovely fruit basket to welcome me back to the property! We opted for MAGC for four out of the six nights we stayed.
As a Plat, breakfast was available in the small dining room at the RBC and the bigger restaurant in main building; the selection in the large restaurant was huge, but we only ate there once, preferring the intimate feel and the exceptional service from the staff in the RBC. Marco in the RBC restaurant actually remembered me from my last visit and the staff went out of their way to make sure that we had all the menu items we wanted, remembering our favourites from one day to the next. In the evenings there are complimentary snacks and drinks in the lounge, and we loved nibbling on the delicious salsa and chips almost every evening. Oh yes, my spouse managed to down a few margaritas as well! We ate dinner in the main dining room once, it was okay, but unremarkable.
The property is almost at the very end of the hotel zone (only the Club Med comes after it) so very quiet, but that's what we LOVED. Even on the busiest days, the pool area and beach were relatively uncrowded. We were able to walk for miles along the beach without seeing hordes of people. And when we felt like some action, we just hopped on the $1 bus that stops right outside the front gate of the hotel and travels down the hotel strip and into city centre.
The concierge was helpful to us in what we needed. She tried to talk us into the timeshare presentation at Lagunamar with the promise of some gifts or SPG points, but we turned it down.
Overall, this is a property that I would happily return to again. Room with a spectacular view, exceptional service, away from the crowds but accessible to the action if we wanted. My only concern is that since I have now spilled the beans, I may have shot myself in the foot with respect to future upgrade availability
