Sure. Thanks for clarifying. The JFK-MXP needs to show as a sector to be able to request an upgrade prior to departure.

Regardless, what I would do is:
- Transfer some more AMEX points to EK to bring it up to 54k miles in your account - you could also purchase 25k miles for 1k USD, or transfer from SPG 20k points.
- Change her booking to EK202 (the A380). (do this any way, the flight is emptier).
- Upgrade her on JFK-DXB (there are Z award seats on this flight).

Not only will she get a proper F service, it saves her a layover.
