British Airways Avios are very useful for flights between LON and the rest of Europe. Cards that earn Avios or points that can be converted to Avios are: Chase SP; Chase BA; Amex Starwood; and any Amex card that participates in the regular Membership Rewards program.

For flights between NYC and LON, AA charges only 20K miles each way in Coach between October 15 and May 15, but you need to find award seats on AA metal -- not BA metal -- to avoid the high surcharges for TATL award travel on BA flights.

Amex MR points can also be transferred to Aeroplan's and ANA's program, for redemption on UA flights from NYC to LON without surcharges, but those programs charge more than AA's 40K roundtrip Coach off-peak rate.
