Totally agree, of all the possible solutions, this seems like the worst one, and one that will lead to the most confusion possible.

If it were me, I would leave your tickets as-is (same name in first name and last name field), it will be pretty immediately apparent to any customs / security officer what is going on, and I'm sure in that line of work, they aee this fairly often.
