Checked Bag Issue-missed bag check cutoff time
Hey All,
Flight was scheduled to leave around 815am. I arrived at 730, went to the skycap to get bags checked and on my way. The Skycap informed me I missed the 45 minute bag check cutoff and will now have to reschedule my flight. Desk agent confirmed and they explained that Austin airport requires you to check your bag 45 minutes before your flight or you'll need to be rebooked. I disagreed that I need to rebooked, request they try anyway since I'm now only 5 minutes past. No luck. I complain loudly, grab the new itinerary and move on.
My rebooked flight from AUS - IAH becomes delayed two hours. Making me miss my connection. I'm rebooked a second time, on a flight that gets me home 5 hours later. Time spent in airport 8 hours, time spent flying 5.
Now, admittedly I had no clue they had bag check cutoff. So, I remembered a comment from the desk agent who said "it's on the email you get from United. It's because our conveyor is broken." Sure enough I look at my eTicket Reminder and find this
Check-in Requirement - Bags must be checked and boarding passes obtained at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Baggage will not be accepted and advance seat assignments may be cancelled if this condition is not met.
EXCEPTION: When departing from Anchorage, Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Honolulu, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kahului, Kona, Las Vegas, Los Angeles,
Maui, Miami, Newark, Orange County (SNA), Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Reno, San Francisco, San Juan, PR, St. Louis, Seattle, Tampa or Washington, DC (both IAD and DCA), the check in requirement time for Passengers and Bags is 45 minutes.
It clearly doesn't show Austin and I was within my allotted time. Now I'm out 8 hours of my life for a mistake by UA.
I've already filled a complaint with United, but wanted to see if has been an issue in the past, if so were you compensated?
Thanks in advance for all your help!
