Maybe someone mentioned it but I didn't see...

The thing that strikes me the most here is that OP basically listed their concerns and doubts at each stage but then took absolutely no initiative at any of these stages. Looks to me like the definition of passive aggressiveness. OP could have taken control at many points as has been mentioned by many others.
