To clarify, how did you book this ticket?
The ticket was booked (JFK-DXB-BLR) via Amex Corporate travel. She is flying alone. Since the following day is Mother's day, I thought I could use some Skywards miles from my account for a J to F upgrade. I have a little over 30k, which is enough to upgrade one segment but not both.

She is not a Skywards member, and is crediting miles to Alaska. She is on a Flex Plus (not sure what exact class or where to look for that) fare, though. Perhaps that might make a difference for the Op-up. I did try a dummy booking on the flight, and it showed availability in J (for two) and F (for three).
