Economy sections of airplanes are now like riding a bus, and in rush hour they are overcrowded. Deal with it - either accept it, or pay more to travel with more space.
Actually, many of us pay extra for an assigned seat, and we insist on the right to receive the entire seat. Do buses or subways charge a high premium for premium, reserved seats and then not allow the riders to sit in them? I've never heard of this being the case.
