This thread is of particular interest to me as I am looking to for 2 UC reward seats to LAS. I have searched the whole year up to next April and can only find less than 5 or 6 dates when there are available seats. The availability is quite poor, shockingly so.
I have saved my miles for about 6 years, churned many cards and used Virgin's shopping portal to earn these miles and am now struggling to find the seats to use them.
I have thought of outbound to LAX and inbound from LAS but still come up with little or no dates. I have tried Air New Zealand to LAX and the Virgin agent still couldn't find anything.
The last resort is booking in to a more flexible economy class and upgrading using miles but this costs more than a straight redemption and would then leave me with miles I couldn't use. Since VS are stopping their LR service to Scotland it makes it expensive to get to MAN or London to begin my redemption as they don't give a connecting flight like BA on long haul redemptions.
My biggest fear is they will devalue the program (like BA have done) and my hard earned miles will be worth far less than they are now. I have never flown in a premium cabin and this was going to be one of our last trips before settling down to start a family. We could use the miles to go to somewhere like NYC in UC where availibilty is generally good but we have saved and transfered Amex points/Clubcard points to end up with 150,000 and 50,000 miles in our individual accounts once a VS revenue flight is credited to our accounts. Quite frustrating to say the least.
