At first I'm thinking about using my cat 5 certificate at Shanghai Marriott City Center for 1 night and probably using points to stay at Renaissance Shanghai Yu Garden for other nights. Unfortunately, Renaissance Shanghai Yu Garden just went from cat 3 to cat 4 this year while some Renaissance hotels in Shanghai are still cat 2.
10,000 vs 15,000 points a night seem insignificant but 10,000 vs 20,000 points a night seem quite a lot.
It makes sense that they moved up in category. I do not recall getting a suite upgrade or anything. But the room was nice and the lounge food was extensive. Large selection of asian fare including some common dim sum.
Food very inexpensive in Shanghai.
