It seems SH Marriott City Center is my choice then. In Hangzhou, I can stay at Courtyard next door using points. It's only cat 2. Even though rooms at Courtyard are smaller than JW, it should be fine for just one night. Hopefully, I will get a suite upgrade.

Agreed. Tried in SH and Shenzhen, never been DCCed. The visa for US 10 year visas are generous compared to visa for e.g. Sweden, Denmark. Last time Mr. applied for 9 days they gave him 11 days. We need 4 visas and it costs around EUR 250 just to have the visa.
Tried SH City Centre and we all like it very much - I made the stay as paid stay because I got a reasonable LNF.
I read reviews about JW Hangzhou - there is a scandal there recently that someone took candid pictures and the housekeeper uses the same cleaning cloth to clean both the toilet and the glass in the room - she also fold towels on the floor
