Thanks guys for all the info. We managed to have only a flight time of 2hrs however once at Heathrow the usual stack formation/ holding pattern occurred with a 15minute delay. Once one the ground another 15min wait as the gate we had originally been assigned was given to another aircraft.
Whilst all of this was going on, around half the flight had connections to JFK, LAX, Chicago and a few others. Flight connections were informed and to their credit and BA cabin crew all passengers were taken care of. Only criticism to note, no announcement was made to let these passengers off first. Instead a scramble occurred!
The captain made plenty of announcements, to help keep things calm! amongst all my flights this is the first captain who has truly kept us passengers informed. At one point once on the ground at FCO, he announced there were around 10 other aircraft in front of us so we would be waiting around 15 minutes, this after the who hoopla of a filed APU, warm cabin.
Once it came to our turn to take off, I noticed an 747 air Thai in front of us preparing to roll, this lead to another 5 min wait to ensure enough of a wake turbulence gap was left.
Sadly a couple with elderly parents missed their LA flight and were given hotel accommodation.
Overall a very looong flight with crew doing a tremendous job!
P.s Flight connections were waiting for all the passengers at the gate, for once it seemed ground crew were well prepared!
