I'm not cheap and I don't mind tipping. For me though, I rarely have much if any change. When I travel I use credit and debit cards. (easier for receipts and expensing)
I'm like you -- don't mind tipping but rarely have change. The YUL (soon-to-be-exclusively-SE) MLL has a bartender but no tip jar and he definitely didn't look like he was expecting anything.
