Rather than speculate, if you post your flight number in addition to the date you have provided, people here can tell you why it was cancelled. Behind every cancellation a reason is logged, and people on here can easily figure out why.
It's somewhat common for AC to cancel flights due to low loads, particularly on short-haul routes where there is high frequency.

If you want an example from the western triangle of a flight cancelled in advance presumably due to low loads, check out AC205 YYC-YVR on May 16 (just cancelled within the past week or so).
