Except for the fact that I have a self-imposed boycott on ever returning to China due to their ever changing visa rules against US nationals and their damn DCC policies, I’d return and stay in Hangzhou in a heartbeat as it had a more local flavor then the big city Shanghai did.

Leeky, I will go to both Shanghai and Hangzhou. I will stay in Shanghai for 3 nights and Hangzhou for 1 night.
I just need to pick which hotel I should use my cat 5 certificate. I will stay at either Marriott or SPG properties using points on the nights that I don't use my certificate.
Since you have stayed at both hotels, which one do you prefer?
