I have used them but there was only one R class available on some but not all flights to and from Hawaii a year in advance.
I booked Bus class and used a Companion and recognition upgrades for my wife, then they cancelled the flight, re credited the upgrades and issued the new ticket in Bus anyway without taking the upgrades again.
I did let them know but eventually just let the upgrades go bad.
