Even if the miles/PQM's matter, every connection is inviting a problem. If there were another flight to JNB an hour later, this wouldn't matter. But, if you misconnect, you are stuck at ATL and the next day or two's flight may either be sold out or at best, have really lousy seats left for an ultra long-haul.
