I believe when I've done this same thing in the past, I got an email with that person's confirmation #, itinerary, etc. Can anyone confirm?
I got both. The new message ("Someone just spent 40,000 of your miles. If it wasn't you, call us and let us know.") came a short while before the confirmation (with itinerary, etc.) The confirmation comes to the email address you provide while booking. I use mine (and forward the message to my friend) so we both have copies.
