Bottom line you
did not stay the first night at the second property, but you did pay for it. According to the rules you must stay to earn credit. It was an exception to allow you credit for that night. There will always be corner cases that should be evaluated and handled. In this case, they probably felt the goodwill gesture was appropriate and mentioned.
