Is BA‘s Avios flight calculator completely useless now?
Despite the fact that I still expect ALL my trips booked before April 28th to earn at the old rates (as promised and regardless of what BA Executive Club posted on this forum), I’m still trying to figure out how they have calculated the Avios/Tier Points on my bookings.
I have a trip to the US containing 9 flights (all listed in MMB and all on oneworld metal) but the new Avios total is down by 17,113 and the Tier Point total is now only 85 (yes, on 9 flights!). Having looked a little closer at domestic routes I’m hardly surprised that the totals all seem wrong.
If you take the LHR-MAN route for example, the basic 'el cheapo' ticket will earn you 125 Avios with no status, but if you are Bronze then the total shown jumps up to 250 Avios. Now it was a long time since I was at school but that appears to be a 100% bonus and not the 25% as stated on the BAEC website. 625 Avios for Gold is a whopping 400% bonus...what is going on!?
LHR-MAN Avios earnings on 'Q,O,G' fare class:
Blue status – 125
Bronze status – 250
Silver status – 375
Gold status – 625
There are a lot of other calculations that don’t seem to be correct. Also, if you look at earnings for oneworld partners you can’t even select the lower booking fares during calculations. How on earth are we supposed to know what we’ll be getting if we can't trust the MMB calculations and the Avios calculator is showing very odd numbers?
I know that British Airways have become masters of misinformation, but the current Avios calculator now seems to be completely inaccurate.
